A Global Organisation (translated)
Lumos works around the world to help the millions of children in orphanages regain their right to a family.
It all began in 2006, when Lumos started working in one of Europe’s poorest country, Moldova.
10 years later, we have worked in 8 countries across 3 continents. We have offices in the UK, US, mainland Europe and the Caribbean.
While the reasons children end up in orphanages may differ certain aspects remain the same. Extreme poverty is the main reason behind most children being in orphanages. And the statistic of 80% of children in orphanages having a family is repeated wherever we work.
Our flexible model works by adapting to the cultural drivers of institutionalisation in every country that we work in. We use demonstration projects to enable the change needed to replace orphanages with community-based services. Governments in other areas can then replicate these. At present, we have programmes in Moldova, Czech Republic, Bulgaria and Haiti.
