Why I ran my first (and possibly only) Marathon for Lumos, and a few recommendations for anyone who feels like doing a charity run.
I’ve worked for the Lumos Communications Team in London for three years. During this time, I’ve worked on numerous campaigns, but when a London Marathon place came up and I was given the opportunity to run for Lumos it felt very different to the work I'd done before. The objective was the same - to help some of the world’s most vulnerable children and families - but the challenge was very different.
I ran along with 40,000 people in the 2017 London Marathon for Lumos. It was my first (and possibly only) marathon attempt and I managed to finish it in 4 hours 54 minutes. I managed to raise £2,961.00 which was 140% of my target! I asked for donations from friends and family to raise most of the total but also supplemented my fundraising with a quiz night. The support I received surpassed all expectations and made it all worth it in the end.
