We’d love to hear what you’re doing and there may be ways that we can support you.
Thank you for your support. You can donate to Lumos and Lumos Foundation USA online here.
There are so many things you could do to fundraise for Lumos. Our supporters have lots of creative ideas to raise money in their schools, workplaces and communities. Here are some ideas to get you started.
Thanks for your interest in taking on a sponsored challenge for Lumos.
Lumos does not buy places in organised sporting events, but you can obtain a place (which might involve entering a ballot system for some events) then choose to fundraise for Lumos. We will support you as much as we can with your fundraising.
You can also organise your own sponsored event. Here’s some guidance on making the most of your sponsorship.
If you are doing a sponsored event, we recommend that you set up a page on Justgiving to collect donations online. This makes it easy to promote your event and also means that Gift Aid is claimed automatically, so we can claim an extra 25% for every donation made by a UK tax payer. All donations and Gift Aid raised using an online giving platform will be transferred directly to Lumos.
Please note that Warner Bros. and J.K. Rowling hold the rights to Harry Potter and J.K. Rowling’s Wizarding World and you may well need permission from them. They have developed parameters for events to ensure that they meet accepted standards. Please fill in our enquiry form so we can send you the relevant guidelines and help you seek permission for your event if needed.
If you would like to use Harry Potter Book Night to support Lumos, there are lots of ways you could do this. You could ask everyone who attends to donate a small amount to Lumos, host a bake sale or take part in a sponsorship challenge. See more ideas here.
The easiest way to donate money from auctions or sales is online via sites like eBay, where we are set up as a registered charity. You can donate up to 100% of the item sale price to us.
As real-life auctions can have complicated laws and regulations, we don’t generally encourage these as a form of fundraising for Lumos unless the organisers are particularly experienced in this and ensure that they comply fully with these.
Please note that because of the numerous laws and regulations worldwide relating to product safety, we do not encourage creation of items for auction or sale to raise funds for Lumos. If, however, you had a one off high value item that you were considering producing, we would love to hear from you, please email fundraising@wearelumos.org.
Because of the complicated laws and regulations worldwide around sweepstakes and competitions, we don’t generally encourage them as a form of fundraising for Lumos. If, however, you have an idea that you think could be particularly effective as a fundraiser, we would love to hear more, please contact fundraising@wearelumos.org.
Thank you for your interest in becoming a promotional partner with Lumos. This means you are looking to sell commercially any item, service or event and donate a percentage to Lumos, or otherwise connect your business to Lumos. Please note that there are very specific legal obligations for charities acting in this way and we have criteria for promotional partnerships. Please get in touch with us by emailing fundraising@wearelumos.org and we will be happy to discuss your idea and our criteria in more detail.
Guidelines on the use of Lumos’ logo will be uploaded in due course. In the meantime, we are unable to authorise the use of Lumos’ logo on websites, products or publicity materials.
We would be happy to send you some materials to help to promote your event. Please fill in the enquiry form here and a member of our team will get in touch with you.
Lumos is more than happy to help you make your event a success, but unfortunately, we cannot share your fundraising pages online. We do however keep an eye on our Instagram, Facebook and Twitter accounts and love to share images of the great events and activities supporters have held when fundraising for us, so be sure to send these to us.
Of course. Showing Lumos’ films is great way of explaining what we do and why it is so important. You can find our films here.
There are several ways of sending the money you have raised to Lumos. If you have collected cash, we advise you to pay this into your bank account then make a donation rather than sending cash. The links below will help you to do this in the easiest way possible. Please note that both Lumos Foundation UK and Lumos Foundation USA accept donations from anywhere in the world.

An estimated 5.4 million children around the world are living in institutions, or so-called ‘orphanages,’ but more than 80% of them are not orphans. Lumos works with governments to transform systems of care so these children can move home. You can find out more about our work here.
Thanks to the generous support of J.K. Rowling and others, 100% of the money you give or raise for Lumos will go directly to our projects.
