Kate’s ‘Light for Lumos’ reading marathon
29.06/2021
This year marked 5 years of reading marathons, and she has no plans to stop!
Kate’s incredible fundraising events in 2019 and 2020 collectively raised over $1750 to support Lumos’s work.
Fundraiser Kate from the USA is no stranger to the harms of institutionalistion. Her older siblings were both adopted after spending much of their early life in an orphanage, and she has grown up witnessing the trauma that this experience has left them with.
And that’s why Kate has been a loyal fundraiser and supporter of Lumos for over 5 years!
As an avid fan of Harry Potter and the Wizarding World, each October Kate takes on a reading marathon and pledges to read as many books as possible in return for donations to Lumos. She aims to raise as much money as she can to ensure every child has a safe and loving family, just like her siblings.
Kate’s mother explains why the reading marathon is so important to their family: “Kate’s older siblings had experienced trauma as a result of time spent in the orphanage. We had never heard of an organisation that was specifically working to end institutionalisation of children, and we knew immediately that we wanted to support Lumos…This year marked 5 years of reading marathons, and she has no plans to stop!”
Thank you Kate for your incredible effort – we can’t wait to support your next fundraiser!
