Sonya is from Bulgaria, and her son was born in 2015.

Sonya's baby was diagnosed at birth with spina bifida and she was told by doctors that her baby would not be able to walk and that he should be placed in an institution 100 miles away from her home in order to get medical treatment. Lumos worked with social workers and the authorities for three months, to successfully get her baby out of the institution and back home with Sonya, where they are now getting the support they need, as a family, within their community.
