Lumos in Moldova, along with local public authorities have launched a first-of-its-kind service for children with disabilities and developmental disorders.
The Early Childhood Intervention Centre (ECIC) is a first for the Republic of Moldova and has opened its doors to children and families in Florești, a region in the north of the country.
The centre will deliver services to children under five with established disabilities, developmental disorders and those at risk of developing such disorders. It has also been designed to provide much needed support to families and carers, so that they are able to care for their children at home.
Specialists at the Centre will provide medical consultations, speech and language, and psychological assistance, physical, occupational and sensory therapies.
Since opening last month, the Centre has provided around 280 individual habilitating and rehabilitating sessions to 14 children with developmental disorders.
