On Sunday 19th May, Lumos was featured in a BBC Radio 4 Appeal, presented by Lumos Ambassador Evanna Lynch.
During this fundraising broadcast, Evanna Lynch will highlight our global work to support a child's right to a family. Evanna will also share the incredible story of Olesea in Moldova, who transformed from a child in the institutional care system to a loved foster child to a fierce advocate for care reform - all with the support of Lumos.
When Olesea was seven she was sent away to live in a children’s home in Moldova. She says, “It was a violent place. I had to fight with other children, even for a piece of bread.” There were few adults to intervene, and certainly no love or comfort.
Lumos works with governments to close children’s homes and orphanages, and reform outdated care systems. Olesea was moved to a caring foster family. She says, for the first time, she knew what love meant. She now advocates for children.
All donations could double your impact as up to £40,000 in donations will be match-funded by a generous supporter.

Lumos supports care reform around the world. The charity was founded by J.K. Rowling after she read a newspaper article which showed children in orphanages in Eastern Europe being kept in caged beds.
