Touring a Lumos Ukraine Inclusive Education Unit

We recently visited a newly created educational space for children, in Stanyshiv, Ukraine. The centre is designed to support children with disabilities and special educational needs and also caters for children impacted by the war who have fallen behind on their education.

The state-of-the-art centre, established in February 2024, has been fitted with learning materials, bright and colourful child-friendly spaces as well as accessible digital learning resources. Also available are dedicated and trained staff including teachers, psychologists and medical workers to provide bespoke educational and emotional support to the children attending the centre.

During this visit, we provided 33 children with educational kits so they could help them gain access to distance learning. These included a tablet, headphones, developmental learning materials and books designed according to different special education, intellectual, sensory and age needs.

The project was completed in February in partnership with Ukraine Without Orphans and the Humanitarian Fund for Ukraine, implemented in close cooperation with the Stanyshiv village council.

Members of the Lumos delegation included Director of Programmes Enrique Restoy PhD, Deputy Director of Programmes, Irina Malanciuc Lumos, Senior Technical Advisor, Bisser Spirov and Ukraine Country Manager, Yaroslav Laguta.

Lumos Foundation presented a collection of Harry Potter books for the children to read at the centre, and the children kindly gifted our delegation with souvenirs they had crafted.
