Lumos to implement first Early Childhood Intervention Centre in Chișinău, Moldova

We are proud to announce our support and contribution to the first Early Childhood Intervention (ECI) Centre in the capital city of the Republic of Moldova, Chișinău. This project will allow local families to access early education and medical intervention services so they may receive the critical support they need.

The creation of this centre will be done as part of the UNICEF project “Creation and development of the Early Intervention services for children with developmental delays and disabilities” financed by German Cooperation through KfW and created by Lumos. Initially the project aimed to create ECI services in two districts of the Republic of Moldova – Cimislia and Falesti. However, during the implementation of the project, Lumos Moldova was able to make savings and proposed to the partners from UNICEF to use the resources for the creation of an additional ECI Centre in Chisinau.

Key stakeholders for this initiative gathered for the official signing of the project.

During an event to mark the signing of this agreement, Adela Glavan, Director of AMT Centru, stated “Creation of the centre will offer equal developmental opportunities to all children within our community. This will allow us to intervene promptly and efficiently, answering their health needs and helping them achieve their potential. The partnership with Lumos Foundation will provide us the opportunity to combine resources and expertise for this.”

Lumos Moldova Country Director, Marcel Straton, added “We’re glad that our partners from UNICEF and the donors of the project agreed to direct saved resources to the creation of an ECI Centre in Chisinau. It is important for the largest city of the country, with the largest population, to have such a centre that will serve the needs of young children, aged 0 to 5, with developmental delays and disabilities.”
