J.K. Rowling, Eddie Redmayne and Zoe Kravitz show support for Lumos fundraising campaign
J.K. Rowling, Eddie Redmayne, Zoe Kravitz and Evanna Lynch, plus a host of other stars, have taken to social media to support a fundraising campaign for Lumos – the charity Rowling founded in 2005.
In a short film, Redmayne, who reprises his role as Newt Scamander in the upcoming second installment of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, said:
"Lumos are doing really important work. They are trying to create a world in which all children have the families they need and the future they deserve."
The charity helps the millions of vulnerable children worldwide who live in harmful orphanages. Rowling urged followers to support the charity’s work and posted a selfie on Twitter wearing the campaign’s "Be the Light" Lumos t-shirt.
Actors Zoe Kravitz and Callum Turner joined in by posting a photo from the set of the film wearing the exclusive black t-shirts that can be obtained by donating. All donors via the CrowdRise campaign, running until 20 September 2017, will be in with the chance to visit the set of the new film at the iconic Leavesden Studios in Hertfordshire, England, UK.
The winner and a guest will have chance to meet members of the cast and crew, as Redmayne said:
“It could be Ezra Miller, Jude Law, Alison Sudol, Katherine Waterson, Dan Fogler, Johnny Depp or me that you meet! All of that by donating.”
Lumos has raised £220,000 from donations so far and is hoping to raise thousands more to fund their work to protect children worldwide from trafficking and exploitation. Just one entry to the competition will have a huge impact, as specified by Alison Sudol, Queenie Goldstein in Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them:
“$12 is how much it costs for one entry; $12 will provide 4 children in Haiti with clean water!”
Based on donation level, perks include a limited-edition print featuring original illustrations by MinaLima for the Original Screenplay of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them and the exclusive black "Be the Light" t-shirt that has been modelled by so many stars. This features an inspirational quote by J.K. Rowling taken from her Very Good Lives Harvard commencement speech in 2008.
Funds raised will help Lumos in their work to:
Close harmful orphanages and reunite children with families.
Provide safe, caring alternative placements for children who are unable to return to their homes.
Protect children from trafficking, abuse and exploitation
Raise awareness of the harm caused by donors unknowingly funding harmful orphanages.
Eddie Redmayne, Newt Scamander in Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them said: “Lumos is the most wonderful cause and I hope to see you guys soon and maybe even on the set.”
