All children have the right to both grow up in a family, and to have a quality education that meets their needs. In recent years, however, Lumos’s work around the world has shown that sometimes, families are having to choose between these two rights for their children.
Lumos has therefore produced the latest in its series of Global Thematic Reviews, examining the well-acknowledged but under-researched relationship between education and institutional care. Our findings challenge the idea that a child’s right to education must be balanced against—or is even in opposition to—their right to family life, instead highlighting the indivisibility of all child rights and the benefits that both rights being met brings to children.
